Abdulvahab Salamzadeh

Abdulvahab Salamzadeh was born in Shamakhi. He worked at the Institute of Architecture and Art of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences (1944-1983).
Since 1951, he has been the head of the Department of History and Theory of Architecture of the Institute, since 1957, he has also been its deputy director, and since 1962, he has been the deputy chairman of the Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments of Azerbaijan.
He was one of the first researchers of Azerbaijani architecture and the founders of Azerbaijani art criticism. He is the author of scientific works on Azerbaijani architecture and craftsmen. The discovery and initial study of many Azerbaijani monuments and craftsmen, the discovery and scientific substantiation of the Arran and Tabriz architectural schools are associated with his research. He was the first researcher of the history of urban planning in Azerbaijan. He developed the scientific foundations of the restoration and protection of ancient cities and architectural monuments.
He is one of the main authors of the works “History of Azerbaijani Architecture”, “Architecture of Soviet Azerbaijan”, the multi-volume “History of the Art of the Peoples of the USSR”, “General History of Architecture”.
He is the developer of the restoration project of many architectural monuments of Azerbaijan.
He has been engaged in pedagogical activity.
