Emin Sabitoglu (Emin Mahmudov) was born in Baku. He studied at the Music School, the Azerbaijan State Conservatory (1954-1956, class of Gara Garayev), and the Moscow State Conservatory (1956-1961, class of Yuri Shaporin).

In 1961, he worked as a music editor at the “Azerbaijanfilm” film studio. In the following years, he worked as an artistic director at the State Philharmonic, and a teacher at the Azerbaijan State Conservatory.

He is the author of many works in various genres of music: a symphony, three symphonic poems, three cantatas, a string quartet, a poem for violin and piano. However, the song genre formed the basis of his creativity. He composed more than 600 songs, 9 musical comedies, and music for about 40 films. The songs “Deraler”, “Baku, sabahın khair”, “Uzag yıl ada”, “Dağlar”, “İnsaf da göşe çeydi” are some of his numerous works. He composed music for many theater performances.

In the last years of his life, he lived in Turkey and was a professor at the Turkish National Conservatory of Istanbul Technical University.

He was awarded the State Prize (1986), the Order of "Fame" (1997) and the "Golden Dervish" Prize (2001). Honored Artist (1978), People's Artist (2000) Emin Sabitoğlu died in 2000.


Composer Emin Sabitoğlu is the son of writer and playwright Sabit Rahman.
