Fikret Amirov

Fikret Amirov was born in Ganja.
He studied in the tar class of the Ganja Music School, the Baku Music School, and the Composition Faculty of the Azerbaijan State Conservatory (1939-1948, B. Zeydman's class).
He worked as the artistic director of the Ganja Philharmonic (1942-1943), the artistic director of the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic (1947), and the director of the Azerbaijan State Opera and Ballet Theater (1956-1959).
He was the secretary of the USSR Composers' Union.
"Sevil", written in a lyrical-psychological mood, is characterized by its dramaturgical conciseness and melodies close to folk music.
The "Nizami" string symphony, which has a philosophical essence, is distinguished by its lyricism, effectiveness, and clear and delicate music.
He is the creator of the symphonic mugham genre. "Shur", "Kurd Ovshari", "Gulustan-Bayat Shiraz" - based on the original source in his symphonic mughams, he enriched these works with his unique compositional technique and creative imagination.
People's Artist of the USSR (1965), laureate of the USSR (1949, 1980) and Azerbaijan (1974) State Prizes, Hero of Socialist Labor Fikret Amirov died in 1984. He was buried in the Alley of Honor.
Composer Fikret Amirov is the father of composer Jamil Amirov.
