Latif Safarov was born in Shusha.
At the age of 7, he starred in the film “Gilan qizi”. Then he came to Baku with the creative team and was accepted into the studio. At the age of ten, he played the main role in the film “Latif” (1930). Later, he played child roles in other films. He studied at the Ganja Pedagogical Technical School (1931). Returning to Baku, he worked as an actor in the dubbing department of the film studio, participating in the dubbing of films such as “Chapayev”, “Lenin in October”, “We Are from Kronstadt”. Later, he worked as a director in films. In 1940, he was admitted to the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow (Grigory Kozintsev’s course). The outbreak of war did not allow him to continue his education, so he returned to Barda and worked as a teacher there for a while (1941-1946). In 1946, he returned to Moscow and continued his education. In 1950, after completing his studies, he returned to Baku and began working at a film studio.
He was the first head of the Union of Cinematographers of Azerbaijan (1958-1963).
Honored Artist (1960) Latif Safarov committed suicide in 1963.
Director, actor Latif Safarov was the husband of singer Shovkat Alakbarova.
