Shahmar Alakbarov was born in Ganja. He studied at the Acting Faculty of the Azerbaijan State Theater Institute (1964, Rza Tahmasib's course). While in his third year, he was hired by the Azerbaijan State Academic National Drama Theater. He first appeared in the theater in the play "Lope de Vega" (Shakespeare). After his success in the play "Masters", he won the sympathy of the audience. After that, Adil Isgandarov invited him to the "film actor" studio he created at the film studio. He worked as an actor and director at the "Azerbaijanfilm" film studio. After completing his education, he was kept at the institute as a teacher-assistant. He was the host of the "Ulduz" program and the "Molla Nasreddin" program on the radio.

He starred in the film "Night in Chile" (1977, directors Sebastian Alarcon, Alexander Kocharev / Russia) by foreign film producers, and in the TV series "Fiery Roads" (1977-1984, director Shukhrat Abbasov / Uzbekistan) as a Turkish policeman. He participated in the dubbing of many films.

Honored Artist (1976), People's Artist (1989) Shahmar Alakbarov died in 1992.
