Tofig Mammadov (Tofig Imirli) was born in Baku. He studied at the Drama and Cinema Actor Faculty of the Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts (Adil Isgandarov's course). He underwent a 6-month internship with Ajdar Ibrahimov in Moscow (1970). In 1966, he joined the "Azerbaijanfilm" film studio. Since 1989, he has worked at the "Salname" documentary film studio, and for some time was the director of the studio (2002-2009).
