Afag Masud (Afag Valiyeva) was born in Baku. She studied at the Faculty of Journalism of Azerbaijan State University (1979).

She worked as an editor at the “Azerbaijanfilm” film studio, a member of the editorial board (1979-1986), a director at “Azerbaijantelefilm” (1986-1988), chairman of the Republican Center for Translation and Literary Relations (1989–2014), editor-in-chief of the “Khazar” world literature magazine, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Azerbaijan State Translation Center (2014–2024).

She is known as an author of novels and short stories. Her works have been translated and published in Russian, English, French, German, and Uzbek. The books “On the Third Floor” (1976), “Saturday Night” (1980), “Transition” (1984), “Crowd” (1991), “Subbotny Vecher” (Moscow, 1984), “Freedom” (1997), “Writing” (2005) have been published. He is the author of the plays “On the Heart”, “He Loves Me”, “On the Road”. He has translated many of his works into Azerbaijani.

He is an Honored Artist (2003), People's Writer (2019). He was awarded the “Humay” Prize and was awarded the “Shohrat” Order (2017).
