Aliagha Vahid (Aliagha Isgandarov) was born in Baku.

He began studying at the Mollakhana, then left his education incomplete due to poverty and worked as a carpenter.

In his youth, he participated in the “Majmaush-shuara” literary gathering in Baku, and wrote lyrical poems under the influence of Azer (Imamaliyev), Muniri and other poets. In his satirical poems, he exposed social shortcomings, superstitions, oppression and injustice. His first book of satirical poems, “Tamahyn natijasi” was published in 1916. His signature was often found in the press. He became known as a ghazal-khan and became famous throughout the East. In Azerbaijan, singers included his poems and ghazals in their repertoire. He translated the works of Nizami, Khagani, Falaki, Navai and other classics. The pseudonym Vahid was given to him by Mirza Abdulkhalig Yusif for his wit.

The first laureate of the State Prize of Azerbaijan, Honored Artist (1943), Aliagha Vahid died in 1965 and was buried in the Alley of Honor.

By Resolution No. 211 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated May 7, 2019, Aliagha Vahid was included in the list of authors whose works are declared state heritage in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
