Javanshir Guliyev

Javanshir Guliyev was born in Sheki.
He studied at the Sheki Music Technical School (1968), the Faculty of Composition of the Azerbaijan State Conservatory (1968-1970, 1970-1975, class of Jovdat Hajiyev).
From his student years, he began working as a sound director at the Azerbaijan State Television and Radio Broadcasting Committee (1973-1990). He worked as an artistic director at the Azerbaijan Concert Union (1990-1993), as a music department director at the Academic National Drama Theater (1992-2005). He was engaged in pedagogical activities at the Baku Music Academy (1980-1998) and the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts (1994-2003). For a long time he was a professor at the Faculty of Performing Arts of the Near East University of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (2005-2021).
He is the author of the first military anthem of modern Azerbaijan. For the first time, he included the saz and zurna in symphonic and symphonic-jazz orchestras, using them as the main instruments. He wrote about five hundred songs, “Preludes” for piano, “Sonatina”, “Seven Pieces” for grand piano in mugham tones, “Dönubdu” for polyphonic choir, “Scherzo” for flute and piano, “Quartets” for first and second strings, “Quartet” for woodwind instruments, “Quintet” for brass instruments, “Music” for string orchestra and zurna, “Overture” for symphony orchestra and zurna, “Sonata” for saz and violin, four symphonies, “Karvan” trio for saz, flute and cello (2000), “Epic” for string orchestra (2001), “Bayatı”, “Mahabbat oyunu” (2001) and “Seven Prisoners” operettas for an orchestra consisting of musical instruments of the peoples of the world (“Atlas” - Holland), “Oguzname” ballet, music for theater performances.
He wrote the music for the Georgian film "Ashg Garib" (1988, directors Sergey Parajanov, David Abashidze).
He was awarded the awards "Humay" (2000), "Golden Dervish" (2001), "Golden Fairy" (2015), and the "For Services to National Cinematography" (2015) of the Union of Cinematographers of Azerbaijan.
He is an Honored Artist (1992).
