Farhad Aghamaliyev was born in Baku.
He studied at the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (1979).
He worked in responsible positions in the newspaper "Sovetskaya kultura" (Soviet Culture) in Moscow. While working in the party press "Sovetskaya kultura", in 1987 he took a bold step by taking the initiative to return the name of Ganja to itself. Although he was subjected to serious pressure for this, he did not deviate from his path. On his initiative, the first Russian-language newspaper related to Azerbaijan, "Panorama Azerbaijan", was published in Moscow. It was on the pages of that publication that information about the newly escalating Nagorno-Karabakh conflict was reflected. He worked as a film commentator for the newspaper "Sovetskaya kultura", the founder of which was the newspaper "Panorama Azerbaijan", as well as the editor-in-chief of the magazine "Sharq ekspresi". He worked as a press attaché at the Azerbaijani embassy in Russia (1993-2003), and first secretary of the embassy. He collaborated with the magazine "Baku", was the founder and host of the column "Bakinstvo" in this magazine. He is the author of numerous books, scripts, and dramas. Documentary films were shot in Baku, Moscow, Sverdlovsk, and Minsk based on his scripts. The play "Arrow and Target" was staged in Baku.
Farhad Aghamaliyev died in Moscow in 2012.
