Sadagat Karimova

Sadagat Karimova was born in Gusar. She studied at the Faculty of Journalism of Azerbaijan State University (1969-1974).
Since her school years, she has been publishing poems, stories and articles in newspapers and magazines. She worked as a correspondent in the newspapers “Azerbaijani Zhanliri”, “Sovet Kendi”, as a department head in the newspapers “Hayat”, “Azerbaijani”, as a deputy editor-in-chief in the newspaper “Gunay”. Since 1997, she has been the editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Samur”, which is published in three languages.
She is the author of 40 books of poetry and prose. As a co-author, she published the books “Lezgian-Azerbaijani Dictionary” and “Azerbaijani-Lezgian Dictionary” (2015).
More than 100 of her songs, the lyrics and music of which are her own, have been performed by singers. She led the "Suvar" Lezgi Song and Dance Ensemble, which she created in 1997, and reworked about 40 Lezgi folk melodies.
She was awarded the "Golden Pen" (1984) and Hasanbay Zardabi (1991) awards of the Union of Journalists of Azerbaijan, and the "Sharvili" award of the Republic of Dagestan (2019).
She is an Honored Worker of Culture (2006).
