Tofig Mammadov was born in the village of Dirnys, Ordubad. He graduated from the Azerbaijan Institute of Civil Engineers with a degree in Civil Engineering (1982).
He worked in various organizations as an electrician, foreman, work executor, head of department, chief engineer, head of construction department (1982-1986), deputy director of the Institute of Botany of ANAS (1986-1996), director of the Mardakan Arboretum (1996-2021), director of the Institute of Dendrology of ANAS (2021-2022).
He is the author of 24 books (“Encyclopedia of Indoor Plants”, “Aging in Absheron According to Ecological Factors”, “Trees and Shrubs of Absheron”, Volume I of “Azerbaijani Dendroflora”, “Rare Trees and Shrubs of Azerbaijan”, etc.), up to 135 scientific articles published in local and foreign press, and 6 patents.
He was a professor at the Department of Botany of Baku State University and the Department of Medical Biology of the Odlar Yurdu University: he taught the programs "Ornamental Floriculture" and "Plant Ecology".
He was awarded the Order of "Glory" (2015). Corresponding Member of ANAS (2007-2022), Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Tofig Mammadov died in 2022 in a road accident in the territory of the Khizi district.
