Aghamusa Akhundov was born in Kurdamir.

He studied at the Faculty of Philology of Azerbaijan State University (1950-1955), the Faculty of Western European Languages ​​of the Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute of Languages ​​(1959-1965). He was a postgraduate student, teacher (1958-1959), senior teacher (1959-1961), associate professor (1961-1967), head of the Department of General Linguistics (1981-1999), professor, dean of the Faculty of Philology (1967-1974, 1980-1990) at Azerbaijan State University. He worked as the director of the Institute of Linguistics of ANAS (1990-2011), and an advisor to the Presidium of ANAS. He began his literary career with his first story, "Second Meeting," published in the journal "Revolution and Culture" (1951). After that, he seriously engaged in artistic creativity, especially the study of the problems of poetic craftsmanship.

Literary critic, linguist, Turkologist, Doctor of Philological Sciences (1964), professor (1967), full member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (2007), laureate of the Azerbaijan State Prize (1986), Honored Scientist (1990), laureate of the "Shohrat" Order (2000) Aghamusa Akhundov died in 2015 and was buried in the II Alley of Honor.
