Elmira Akhundova

Elmira Akhundova was born in the Ramensk settlement of the Moscow region.
She studied at the Faculty of Philology of the Azerbaijan State University.
Since 1977, she has worked as a correspondent at the Azerbaijan State Television and Radio Broadcasting Committee (1977-1980), editor, referent-advisor at the Azerbaijan Writers' Union (1980-1988), and senior research fellow at the Nizami Ganjavi Literature Institute (1988-1990). She was a special correspondent for "Literature Newspaper" (1990-1998), "Obshchaya Gazeta", and a correspondent for "Svoboda" radio (1993-2002). She was a deputy of the Milli Massenlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan of the III (2005–2010), IV (2010–2015) and V convocations (2015–2020), and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Ukraine (2020–2023). Since 2002, she has been an associate professor at Baku Slavic University. She is the author of fiction and journalistic books. Candidate of Philological Sciences (1984), Honored Journalist, laureate of the Order of "Shohrat" (2003), Hasan bey Zardabi and Najaf Najafov awards. People's Writer (2018).
Journalist Elmira Akhundova was the wife of director Ramiz Akhundov.
Journalist Elmira Akhundova is the sister of writer Ali Gafarov and actress, announcer Tamilla Gafarova.
