Emil Babayev was born in Baku.
He studied at the G. Huseynli Music College (199-1998), the Film Directing Department of the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Art (1999-2003).
He worked at Lider TV (2002-2007), as a director at Azerbaijan TV (2007-2010, 2019-2024), ANS TV (2010-2011) and InterAZ TV, as a chief director at Azad Azerbaijan TV (2011), and as the head of the “Vatanim” Creative Union of Azad Azerbaijan TV.
Director Emil Babayev is the husband of screenwriter Gunel Mehri.
