Firudin Maharramov

Firudin Maharramov (Firudin Maharramli) was born in Lerik.
He studied directing at the Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts (1983-1987, Mehdi Mammadov's course).
During his student years, he directed such works as "The History of a Love" (Ray Bradbury), "Kamancha" (Jalil Mammadguluzadeh), "Like a Liquor" (Rustam Ibrahimbeyov), and "Electra" (Sophocles) at the Educational Theater. In 1987, he was accepted as a production director at the Sumgayit State Musical Drama Theater. So far, he has staged more than 60 works on this stage. He has directed up to 80 performances at the Academic National Drama Theater, Lankaran Theater, Mingachevir Theater, Shusha Theater, Gazakh Theater, and Yerevan Theater. He founded the first Azerbaijani Theater in New York with the play “Monsieur and the Dervish” (2011). He is the scriptwriter and production director of State events held in Sumgayit. He is the translator of 4 plays, the author of 5 plays. Since 1997, he has been the chief director of the Sumgayit State Musical Drama Theater.
He was awarded the “Successful Experiment on a Classical Work” award (1998, Georgia) for the play “Monsieur Jordan and the Dervish Masteli Shah” (M.F. Akhundov) he directed at the International “Golden Mask” festival dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the city of Rustavi, and the “Successful Actors’ Ensemble” - director’s award at the “Fullness of Empty Space” Theater Festival for the play “The Shore of Hope” based on the motifs of the story “Alabash Running Along the Sea” (Chingiz Aitmatov) (2005, Baku).
He is a laureate of the "Golden Dervish" award, Honored Artist (2006), and People's Artist (2018).
