Ismayil Hidayetzadeh was born in Baku.

He studied at the "Ittihad" school (1909).

He began his stage career in 1917 in the performances of professional national theater groups. Since 1920, he has worked at the State Theater. In parallel, in 1921, he entered Voronov's theater studio. He staged Huseyn Javid's play "Seyavush" on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of Firdov (1934). The opera "Koroglu" staged under his direction demonstrated the rise of national directing culture (1937). From 1937 until the end of his life, he worked as the chief director of the Azerbaijan State Opera and Ballet Theater. He staged such works as "Arshin Mal Alan", "Gyz Qalasy", "Khosrov and Shirin", etc. At the same time, he staged a number of plays at the drama theater.

Honored Artist (1933), People's Artist (1938) Ismayil Hidayetzadeh died in 1951 and was buried in the Yasamal cemetery.
