Khan Shushinski (Isfandiyar Javanshir) was born in Shusha.

He gained fame in his youth thanks to his wide-ranging, sonorous and charming voice and high performing culture. When he was 16 years old, at a gathering he attended with his master Islam Abdullayev, he performed the mugham “Kurd-Shahnaz” in an amazing manner, following the path of Tabriz singer Abdulhasan Khan, and his teacher gave him the name “Khan Shushinski”. Jabbar Qaryagdioglu and Seyid Shushinski also had a great influence on his development as a singer. Since 1939, he has been a soloist of the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic. In 1960, he opened a “Mugham Studio” under the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic, where he taught young singers the secrets of mugham.

He taught at the Azerbaijan State Music School.

He composed songs (“Shusha’nin daghlari”, “Menden gen gezme”, “Ay gözel”) and tasnifs.

People's Artist (1943) Khan Shushinski died in 1979 and was buried in the Second Alley of Honor.
