Leonid Weinstein was born in Baku.
He studied at the Azerbaijan State Conservatory (1968, G. Garayev's class).
In different years, he worked as an associate professor at the composition departments of the Azerbaijan State Conservatory and the Asef Zeynalli Music College, and as a music arranger at the Azerbaijan State Russian Drama Theater. He composed works in various genres, preferring theatrical and symphonic music. Among his main works are the ballet "Ilham", the rock opera "White Sun of the Desert", the operas for children "Puss in Boots", "Cinderella", 6 symphonies for large symphony orchestra, violin concerto, concerto for string orchestra, string quartet; There is a “memorial” triptych for organ (dedicated to the Khojaly events), a “Azerbaijan-60” cantata for mixed choir and BSO, an oratorio “I want to return to the sea”, a vocal series “The sea, the sky and love”, music for theater, films, pop plays, a romance “Your spring will come to Azerbaijan!”, songs.
