Afrasiyab Mammadov was born in Ganja.
In 1945, he entered the directing course of Maharram Hashimov at the Baku State Theater Institute. However, 6 months later, Adil Isgandarov, having heard and seen his stage appearance and inner capabilities, transferred him to an acting course. He was accepted as an actor in the troupe of the Azerbaijan State Academic National Drama Theater. He worked as the chief director of the Azerbaijan State Puppet Theater and was also engaged in pedagogical activities.
He starred in the role of Revaz in the film “Personally Known” (1957 / Armenia) by foreign film producers.
Afrasiyab Mammadov died in 1990 and was buried in the Alley of Honor.
