Aghaverdi Pashayev was born in Baku.

He studied tar at the Asaf Zeynalli Music College (1966-1971), and choral conducting at the Azerbaijan State Conservatory (1971-1977).

He is engaged in pedagogical activities, has been a teacher at the Conservatory since 1978, and has been the head of the “Orchestration and Conducting of Folk Instruments” department of the Azerbaijan National Conservatory since 2002.

Since 1999, he has been the artistic director of the Honored Collective of the State Song and Dance Ensemble named after Fikret Amirov of the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic, and since 2000, he has been the artistic director and chief conductor of the Azerbaijan State Orchestra of Folk Instruments.

He was awarded the title of laureate of the International “Golden Jang” award in Iran (2003, 2004).

Professor (1999), Honored Artist (2005), People's Artist (2008), laureate of the "Humay" award (2 times) and the "Shohrat" order (2016).
