Alakbar Seyfi was born in Tbilisi.
He studied at the "Ittifaq" school.
He first appeared on stage at the age of 13 - in 1914, in the role of Bahram in the play "Demirchi Gave" (Shamsaddin Sami). He played small roles in school plays. He was one of the organizers of the "Ibret" drama society in Tbilisi (1918). He worked as an actor (1921-1929) and deputy director (1922-1929) at the Tbilisi Azerbaijan Theater, as a translator and department head at the "Yeni fikir" newspaper, and as a translator at the "Dan ulduzu" magazine. In 1928, he was elected a member of the committee for the new Azerbaijani alphabet. Later, he worked as an actor, literary section head, deputy director and director (1929-1932) at the Baku Turkish Workers' Theater. After the Baku Turkish Workers' Theater moved to Ganja (1932), he went there and worked as the director of the Ganja State Drama Theater (1932-1938).
In 1938, he became a victim of repression and spent 19 years in prison camps.
In 1956, he was acquitted and returned to the Ganja State Drama Theater, where he worked as an actor (1956-1962) and director (1962-1965).
He translated many plays into Azerbaijani.
Honored Artist (1958), People's Artist (1961) Alakbar Seyfi died in Ganja in 1977 and was buried in the Alley of Honor in the Baghbanlar neighborhood of Ganja.
