Azad Sabir oglu Aliyev was born in Baku.
He studied at the Azerbaijan State Conservatory in the specialties of Piano (1974) and Vocal (1980).
Since 1960, he has been engaged in pedagogical activity at the music school No. 6, the Asaf Zeynalli Secondary Specialized Music School, and the Sumgayit Secondary Specialized Music School. He worked as a concertmaster at the string instruments department of the Azerbaijan State Conservatory (1974-1982), the chief sound director of the Palace of the Republic (1972-1980), and in 1980 he became the deputy director of the Sumgayit secondary specialized music school. At that time, he founded the first chamber orchestra in Sumgayit and performed with this orchestra in various concerts. Since 1992, he has worked as the director and artistic director of the Opera Studio (1994-2014) and a teacher of the Opera Preparation Department of the Baku Academy of Music. He was a teacher of the Chamber Ensemble and Accompaniment class at the Bulbul Secondary Specialized Music School (1999-2014). He was the second conductor of the Niyazi Symphony Orchestra and the Uzeyir Hajibeyov Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra (2001-2006), the artistic director and chief conductor of the Niyazi Symphony Orchestra of the Azerbaijan Television and Radio Closed Joint Stock Company (2006-2014).
In addition to his pedagogical activities, he also worked as a performer. He prepared many opera performances as a conductor at the Opera Studio.
