Boris Svetlov was born in 1880 in Orenburg, Russia.
He studied at the Lazarev Institute of Oriental Languages.
He acted in various theaters (1910-1912). Since 1912, he has been making films at various film studios. In 1915, he came to Azerbaijan at the invitation of the Filma joint-stock company and directed several films. Since 1920, he returned to the theater and directed there. In 1921, he organized the Cinema Technical School in Petrograd. Since 1930, he has been leading the productions of the "Music Hall".
Boris Svetlov died in 1943 in Barnaul, Altai Territory, Russia.
