Gambar Huseynli was born in Ganja.
He studied at the Tar Department of the Ganja Music School (1927-1929), the Ganja Pedagogical College (1929-1934), and the Cello and Composition Class of the Asef Zeynalli Music College (1934-1936, 1951-1954).
In 1939, he was sent to the Shusha Music College as a director. A year later, he was invited back to Baku, where he worked as an assistant conductor at the Azerbaijan Folk Instruments Orchestra under the Philharmonic, as well as the organizer and artistic director of the Sazchi Girls Ensemble. His highly professional performance of the mughams “Segah”, “Shur”, “Zabul” and other mughams performed on the tar stood out from others. He has songs such as “Mughana jeyran”, “Teller oynadi", “First love”, “Moonlight” and “Gejalar uzanaydi”. The song "My Chicks" has been sung all over the world and performed in more than 100 languages. He wrote in all genres of music. He wrote music for the stage plays "Family Honor", "Sheikh Sanan", "Daghilan tifag", "Almaz" and others. He is the author of more than 100 romances.
