Huseyn Mehdiyev

Huseyn Mehdiyev was born in Sheki.

He studied at the Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute (1962-1967) and the Cinematography Department of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (1972-1977).

He worked as a photojournalist in newspapers and magazines, mainly in the magazines "Gobustan" and "Ulduz" (1967-1972). His photo books "Photopoetry" and "Musical Etudes" have been published. Since 1977, he has worked as a cameraman at the "Azerbaijanfilm" film studio, and since 1986 as a director. He worked as Deputy General Director of the "Azerkinovideo" Production Association (1993-2001). In 1999-2024, he was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Azerbaijan Professional Film Directors Guild. In 2025, he was the Honorary Chairman. He is the author and director of the projects “International Audiovisual Festival” (2001-2008) and the “Golden Fairy” Professional Award of the Azerbaijan Film Academy (2015, 2018, 2025). He is a member of the European Film Academy. His films have participated in international film festivals. The film “Another Time” won the nomination “For Best Director” at the 1st International Madrid Film Festival (1997). He is an Honored Artist (2000).

Director, cinematographer Huseyn Mehdiyev is the father of cinematographer Nadir Mehdiyev.
