Lutfi Mammadbayov (Lutfi Mammadbayli) was born in Agdash.

He studied at the Acting Department of the Baku Theater Technical School (1943-1947) and the Directing Faculty of the Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts (1961-1966).

In 1941, he began his labor activity as a stage worker at the cultural house in Amirjan. In 1947, he worked for a while at the Musical Comedy Theater, and when this theater was temporarily closed in the late 1940s, he joined the troupe of the Young Spectators Theater. In 1961, he was invited to the Drama Theater and worked there until the end of his life. Since 1953, he headed the drama club at the Baku Central Pioneer Palace. In 1961, this club, which received the status of a People's Theater, trained several generations of Azerbaijani actors. He worked as a professor at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Art. He participated as an actor in the dubbing of films into Azerbaijani (1953-1976). He directed several plays on the stage of the Academic National Drama Theater, more than 60 television plays on television, and directed the first television series in Azerbaijan ("The Missing Bride").

Laureate of the "Golden Dervish" award, Honored Artist (1974), People's Artist (1991), laureate of the "Shohrat" order (1997) Lutfi Mammadbayov died in 2004.
