Majnun Vahidov was born in Agdash.
He graduated from the Faculty of Oil Mechanics of the Azerbaijan State Petrochemical Institute (1969) and worked at this educational institution until the end of his life.
He was engaged in the optimal design of lathes. He is the author of 80 scientific works and 10 inventions. He was a master of sports in chess composition. He is the author of the books “Chess Composition” and “Caravan of Members on the Great Silk Road”. He was the chairman of the commission on chess composition under the Azerbaijan Chess Federation and the captain of the Azerbaijani national team. He composed about 200 chess problems and etudes, some of which won prizes in international competitions. Several of his works were included in the FIDE Golden Book, the “FIDE Album”. He published a number of theoretical articles on chess composition. Together with his co-authors, he discovered two new topics, which were included in chess reference books. He has been a referee in Azerbaijani championships and international competitions. He has also been engaged in literary creativity. He is the author of humorous stories and the television play "Yarımşat". At the same time, he was closely interested in Turkology and devoted several articles to this field.
Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Majnun Vahidov died on April 30, 2009 as a result of a terrorist act committed at the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy.
