Mirzagha Aliyev (Mirzaagha Aliyev) was born in Hovsan.

He received his first education in a mullahkhana and graduated from a Russian-Muslim school. His first art teacher was Jahangir Zeynalov.

He first appeared on stage in 1901 as Shahmar in the play "Musibat Fakhraddin" (Najaf bey Vezirov). Under his leadership, a theater troupe called "Hamiyyat" operated (1906-1907). He performed in the theater troupe of the Nijat Society (1907-1912). In 1912, he was exiled to Astrakhan for his anti-tsarist views and roles in plays. A year later, he was pardoned and returned to Baku. In 1916, he played the role of Iskander when the play "The Dead" (Jalil Mammadguluzade) was staged under the direction of Huseyn Arablinski. He was one of the organizers of the "Criticism and Propaganda" Theater, which began operating in Baku in 1921. Since 1924, he has been a member of the creative staff of the current National Drama Theater and has worked in this temple of art until the end of his life.

He is the author of satirical works such as "The Eyes of the Vizier", "Mashadi Gets Married", "There How, Here So", "How Blood Should Not Cry!", "Jealousy", "Oh Dad, From the Hand of Shumur!", "Telephone".

He also worked on the radio.

Honored Artist (1926), People's Artist (1933), People's Artist of the USSR (1949), twice laureate of the USSR State Prize (1943, 1948) Mirzagha Aliyev died in 1954 and was buried in the Alley of Honor.
