Nabi Khazri (Nabi Babayev) was born in Khirdalan.
He studied at Azerbaijan State University (1945-1947), Leningrad State University (1947-1949), and the Maxim Gorky Literary Institute (1949-1952).
He worked as a proofreader at the Kommunist newspaper (1943-1945), a literary worker at the Literature and Art newspaper (1957-1958), an announcer at the Azerbaijani Radio, deputy chairman of the Azerbaijan Radio and Television Broadcasting Committee (1965-1971), deputy minister of culture (1971-1974), an advisor and secretary at the Writers' Union (1952-1957, 1958-1965), and president of the Azerbaijan World International Relations Center.
His first book, "Flourishing Dreams," was published in 1950. He has written books, plays, literary and critical articles, journalistic articles, and translations.
Laureate of the State Prizes of the USSR (1973) and Azerbaijan (1982), laureate of the Orders of "Glory" (1995) and "Independence" (İstiglal) (2004), Honored Artist (1979), People's Poet (1984) Nabi Khazri died in 2007 and was buried in the Alley of Honor.
