Gulu Maharramli

Gulu Maharramli was born in Zangilan.
He studied at the Faculty of Journalism of Baku State University (1978).
Since 1978, he was assigned to Azerbaijan Television. He worked as a correspondent, editor, senior editor, commentator, political commentator, and department head in various editorial offices of the television. Since 1991, he has been on the air regularly, hosting the news programs "1000 seconds" and "24 hours". Until 1994, he worked as a host of AzTV's main news programs. Between 1993 and 1995, he was the author and host of the popular analytical-information program "7 days", as well as the first author's program broadcast on AzTV ("Details" - 1995). In 1995, he was appointed a political commentator on Azerbaijan Television. Since that year, he has also led the music-information program "Saher", which is broadcast every day. For a long time (1995-2007) he was the editor-in-chief of this organization. In 1995-1996, he headed the News editorial office. In 2005, after AzTV was transformed from a company into a closed joint-stock company, he was appointed editor-in-chief of the “Morning” program. In 2007, he was appointed director of the “Author’s Programs and Special Projects” department. On October 2 of that year, he left AzTV CJSC. He hosted the “Friends’ Meeting” and “Agenda” programs on Khazar TV (2007-2012), was a consultant to the television. He worked as the head of the Monitoring Department of the Nasimi Institute of Linguistics of ANAS (2014-2016).
He has been engaged in scientific activities since 1982. He defended his candidacy on the topic of “Radio Dramaturgy Language” (1989), and his doctoral dissertation on the topic of “Television Language: Function and Structure” (2004). He is the first doctor of sciences in the country in journalism. He began teaching at Baku State University in 1991. He has been a senior lecturer since 1998, an associate professor since 2002, and a professor since 2006 at the Department of Television and Radio Journalism. He is the head of the department. He is the author of about 30 books, including several monographs, textbooks and teaching aids, as well as explanatory dictionaries. He is the editor-in-chief of the AZLEKS electronic dictionary collection. He was the deputy chairman of the Azerbaijan Press Council (2005-2008), headed the "Commission on Complaints".
He was awarded the "Golden Pen", "Hasan bey Zardabi", "Media Key" awards.
He is an Honored Journalist (2006).
