Gurban Pirimov

Gurban Pirimov was born in the village of Abdal Gulabli in Aghdam.
At the age of 15, with the blessing of his teacher Sadigjan, he accompanied famous singers at Karabakh weddings. At one of such weddings, singer Islam Abdullayev took him as his tar player. In 1905, at one of the Ganja weddings, Jabbar Garyaghdioghlu liked his tar playing and, with Islam Abdullayev's consent, brought the young man with him to Baku. Since 1905, he has established a musical trio with Jabbar Garyaghdioghlu and Sasha Oganezashvili. He was the soloist of the orchestra in the first performance of Uzeyir Hajibeyov's opera "Leyli and Majnun" (1908).
He worked at the Azerbaijan State Opera and Ballet Theater for 40 years. The mughams and tasnifs he performed were recorded on gramophone records by the "Sport-rekord" company in Warsaw, Riga and Moscow (1910-1912).
He was the first person to be awarded the title of People's Artist of Azerbaijan.
Honored Artist (1929), People's Artist (1931) Gurban Pirimov died in 1965 and was buried in the Alley of Honor.
