Rafig Dadashov was born in Baku.

He studied at the Theater Studies Faculty of the Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts (1964-1970), and at the Higher Two-Year Film Director and Screenwriter Courses under the Moscow State Cinema Committee (1969-1971).

In 1963, he was hired as a worker at the "Azerbaijanfilm" film studio, worked as an assistant director (1964-1972), and director (1972-1995). Since 1995, he has worked at "Azerbaijantelefilm". Later, he worked as deputy chairman of the "Sabah" Creative Union. Since 1997, he returned to the "Azerbaijanfilm" film studio. Since 2002, he has worked as a director at the "Azerbaijantelefilm" union of Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting CJSC.

Honored Worker of Culture (2016) Rafig Dadashov passed away in 2017.

Director Rafig Dadashov was the husband of editor Nelli Dadashova.
