Shahmar Garibli (Shahmar Garibov) was born in Kurdamir.

He studied at the Drama and Film Actor Faculty of the Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts (1971-1975), and at the Higher Directing Course of the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography (1990-1991, Leonid Kheifets' workshop).

He received his first appointment to the Sheki State Drama Theater (1975). However, he stayed there for only three months and returned to Baku. He began working at the Sumgayit State Musical Drama Theater (1976). Since then, he has been an employee of this theater with certain breaks. He directed some performances. For a while, he worked on Lider television (2001-2010).

He played the role of Khristofor Peneotovich in the series "Count Krestovsky" (2004, directed by Ramiz Fataliyev) and Kamal in the series "Yasmin" (2013, directed by Ksenia Zarutskaya, Vyacheslav Kaminsky), both produced by Russian film producers.

Shahmar Garibli died in 2018 and was buried in Kurdamir.
